Stop taking for 5 Days

The following allergy medications MUST BE STOPPED 5 FULL DAYS prior to skin testing:

Oral antihistamines:
Alavert
Allegra
Atarax
Cetirizine
Clarinex
Claritin
Fexofenadine
Hydroxyzine
Loratadine
Pepcid (famotidine)
Vistaril
Walitin
Walzyr
Xyzal
Zantac (ranitidine)
Zyrtec
Any generic or other brand variations of the above medications

Please also STOP TAKING the following medication 5 DAYS prior to testing:
TRAZODONE
PREDNISONE
Doxylamine (Vicks NyQuil, Alka-Seltzer Plus Night-Time Cold Medicine)


Stop taking for 3 Days

The following allergy medications MUST BE STOPPED 3 FULL DAYS prior to skin testing:

Over the counter oral antihistamines:
Brompheniramine (Bromfed, Dimetapp Cold & Allergy, Robitussin Allergy & Cough)
Chlorpheniramine (Actifed Cold & Allegy, Chlor-Trimeton, Deconamine, Rondec, Singlet)
Clemastine (Tavist Allergy)
Dimenhydrinate (Dramamine Original)
Diphenhydramine (Benadryl Allergy, Nytol, Sominex)
Any generic or other brand variations of the above medications

Prescription oral antihistamines:
Acrivastive (Semprex-D)
Carbinoxamine (Palgic)
Cyproheptadine
Dexchlorpheniramine
Tripolidine (Tripohist)

Nasal Antihistamines (nasal sprays):
Azelastine nasal (Astelin, Astepro)
Dymista
Olopatadine nasal (Patanase)
Please continue taking your nasal steroids (Nasonex, Flonase, Omnaris, Rhinocort, Nasacort, etc.,)

Optic Antihistamines (eye drops):
Alaway
Elestat
Emadine
Ketotifen
Naphazoline ophth
Naphcon or Naphcon A
Opcon A
Optivar
Pataday
Patanol
Visine A (naphazoline ophth)
Zaditor
Zyrtec

Continue taking

Combination asthma inhalers:
Advair
Breo
Symbicort
...etc
Other asthma/allergy medications:
Singulair
Decongestants:
psuedoephedrine (Sudafed)
phenylephrine (Sudafed PE)
guaifenesin (Mucinex)
It is also acceptable (but not recommended) to use Afrin decongestant prior to testing
